Dear
fellow South Africans, friends and visitors.
My wife
and I arrived in Dubai on 11 Feb 2010.
Allow me to introduce myself: My name is Fanus Schoeman
and I am proud to represent South Africa as the Consul
General for Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
I am married to Judith, we have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
I studied at the University in Pretoria, served as
Member of the South African Parliament for 15 years.
I have also served as the South African ambassador to
Singapore (2000-2004) and thereafter, the South African
ambassador to South Korea (2005-2009).
In history there are certain milestones during the
development of countries that can be described as defining
events.
20 years ago, the nine days between 2 February 1990,
when the then President F.W. de Klerk announced the
unbanning of the ANC and the release of Nelson Mandela
on 11 Feb 1990, have become the defining moment for
South Africa.
These nine days opened the way to the new South Africa.
During the past 20 years, South Africa has successfully
moved out of international isolation. In 1990, South
Africa had missions in 24 countries. Today, South Africa
has 124 missions in every corner of the world. These
changes in South Africa created opportunities to explore
trade and invest in the United Arab Emirates. Most importunately,
these changes allowed the people of South Africa to
connect with the generous spirit of the Emirati people
and the expatriate community in general
The objective of this website is to provide you with

Fanus Schoeman
Consul-General of the Republic of South Africa
